================================================================ Title : Ghost Hill - Kohna's Den by GoJo Filename : ghosthil.zip Email Address : cooperjd@one.net The Story : In the valley once raged a great battle between a cavalry unit and a tribe of Sioux warriors. Before the battle, the young medicine man retreated to the cave of his vision and danced for victory. Though they fought fiercely and bravely, the Sioux were defeated. The spirit of the young medicine man dances still. He may quit only when the white man leaves the valley and the Sioux return to their traditional ways. A certain gentleman took advantage of the haunting to set up a little getaway. No, he doesn't escape the law, just the madding crowd. With some TNT he enlarged a hole near the creek in the rear of a cleft. There he discovered a room that with a bit of mud and rock he walled off into a cozy retreat. The smoke from his torch revealed a natural chimney. On the heights above can be seen a hastily abandoned camp of a wandering prospector. He thought that there might be gold in the mountain. When he saw the ghost, he ran confusedly and exited the cave's lower entrance. He didn't bother to get his gear. Go visit the ghost. Sure, you can be brave because you know that he only dances and sings. The prospector was not so informed. Description : Should work for all games, but I had in mind DM and Teams. Tag is in there, too. : A note on CTF; This map may be one sided for CTF. The lower team has the tougher job of gettin to the other flag, but once they have it, the flag carrier can just leap off the ledge and croak very near his team's flag. The upper team has an easier route to the lower flag due to being able to drop from path to path relatively safely. If the upper team is full of Docs, they can drop more precipitously to the bigger midway ledge, hit med bags, and then drop the rest of the way with about 4 hearts gone. Sometimes, by hugging the cliff on the drop from the mid to the lower, I've landed with no heart loss. I have no idea what causes this, I just mention it so that all will be aware. So if playing CTF, send in a Doc to find out which flag is on the top. That way the rest of the players can choose their character more wisely. Gryph suggested the extra knives, since he con- sidered the map to be a natural Chief map and wanted Doc to be in the hunt also. The extra shotgun ammo is for those who want to try Bob. He could lurk nicely in the cave. Sadly, my fave character, James, is at a bit of a loss. The scopes are pretty much a waste of space, but I threw them in there anyway. Innovations: Putting up two see through foliage walls was intended to enhance the 3D effect. Straff by them to check it out. Probably every LawMaker has mislayered an object. I did it on purpose to get the ghost to glow and disappear if one gets too close. All I did was tell LawMaker that he was in the lit sector on the other side of the cave divider. You will only see the ghost when this sector is in view; ditto the smoke behind him. Earlier maps have used sloped floors in the distance to give forced perspective. The only thing different about this use in the valley was the construction of a special grass PCX to further trick the eye. Those with long memories may wonder what happened to the fog. It worked, but it REALLY lagged. I may use it on some map in the future that isn't so convoluted with sectors. Difficulty Settings : n/a New PCXs : Loads. Heavy_Gear gives permission to use his coolrock.pcx from Ft McHenry. New NWXs : Loads. Ooo, BTW, you don't have to jump the rocks. They are custom and can be walked right through. The vertical weapons are my own take on this useful work that began with Cutter (I think - Don't shoot me if someone else was first. :-) I added some ammo to them also and gave an indication on the ground around the shotguns. New WAVs : The ghost song and the campfire. I'll mention that the campfire can be heard on the upper area with headphones. I suppose you could imagine that you are hearing it via that natural chimney, whereas actually, it just points up that Outlaws ignores differences in height as far as hearing sounds goes. It really is a 2D game. I had to move the ghost room into the cliff face from its original location in order to keep him from being heard outside his room.
